Pliny The Elder, a double IPA from Russian River Brewing, is a beer I know well, because it’s one of the best in the world and I haven’t tried it yet. Based on the man who first wrote about hops, this beer is stuff of legend, and only available in certain parts of the U.S. in limited supply.

Pliny The Younger, a triple IPA, has reached cult status due to its exclusivity: you have to mission to the brewery once every year to get it. There you will meet your people, and you will experience bliss like never before.

Pliny is a good example of exclusivity and historical myth playing into a beer’s narrative and prestige. Coupled with a great beer, this narrative is a powerful force. What’s better than sharing a brew of Pliny The Younger with beer geeks every February? … Not much, but this documentary will have to do. Cheers!
